Ninety percent of cosmetics in cosmetic bags are contaminated

A British study showed that more than 90% of cosmetics in cosmetic bags were contaminated by pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli and staphylococcus, and the health situation was worrying.

Researchers at Aston University's School of Life and Health Sciences tested 467 cosmetics samples and came to that conclusion. These cosmetics include used lipsticks, lip glosses, eyeliners, mascaras, and makeup sponges. The results showed that makeup sponges had the most serious problems, with 92% carrying at least one harmful bacterium, about 80% of each eyeliner and mascara carrying harmful bacteria, and 75% of lipsticks carrying harmful bacteria. The survey also showed that 93% of the makeup sponges had never been cleaned, and 64% had fallen to the ground.

Researchers published a paper in the latest issue of the Journal of Applied Microbiology saying that the health issue of cosmetic bags should not be underestimated. When the user applies contaminated cosmetics on the eyes, lips, etc., especially when the skin is broken, it may cause skin infection or even sepsis. Research leader Amlin Bashir says consumers' poor hygiene habits are worrying.
