Israel will again deduct tax collection surrendered to Palestine

来源:新华网 09:21:20 December 30, 2019 Source: Xinhuanet

The Israeli Security Cabinet decided on the 29th that it will deduct 149 million New Shekels (approximately 43 million U.S. dollars) from the taxes paid to Palestine.

Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett said in a statement issued on the same day that the funding was obtained after an estimate of the funding paid by the Palestinian Authority to "terrorist" families in 2018. Bennett said the move was aimed at putting pressure on the Palestinian side to force Palestinians to stop attacking Israelis.

In February 2019, the Israeli Security Cabinet decided to implement the "law on deducting terrorist salaries" and decided to deduct approximately 500 million new shekels (approximately US $ 145 million) of tax collection taxes transferred to Palestine. Palestine strongly opposes and condemns the Israeli decision, seeing it as a violation of international law and relevant international resolutions, and has refused to receive the remaining taxes transmitted by Israel.

According to the Paris Economic Protocol signed by Palestine and Israel in 1994, Israel is responsible for imposing customs duties on goods destined for Palestine and levying personal income taxes on Palestinians working in Israel, and regularly handing over the taxes to Palestine. This amount of more than $ 1 billion per year accounts for about two-thirds of the Palestinian government's operating budget.
